Image Detail & Specifications

Seen here in the livery of Atkinson's Brewery, the Hydraulic Inn stood on the corner of Lodge Road and All Saints Street and, subsequently, was a very popular watering hole for employees of Scribban's Bakery which stood across the road. The Hydraulic was a neat-looking building with uniform fenestration. The corner entrance was used for the main bar whilst the first door on All Saints Street served as the access to the outdoor. Patrick O'Neil was the licensee when this photograph was taken. The pub closed in 1970 and was later demolished. In the early 1880's the Hydraulic Inn was kept by Halesowen-born Benjamin Gaunt and his wife Catherine.
