A lovely scene with a couple sitting in their De Soto saloon car
looking out across Big Bear Lake in California. The car is
parked close to the dam which carries Route 18 across the water.
Approximately 7 miles long, the reservoir is located in San
Bernardino County. The Bear Valley was first dammed in 1884 but
a new structure was built in 1912, creating a larger capacity
dam. De Soto automobiles were the brainchild of Walter Chrysler
who introduced the first models in 1929. Named after the Spanish
explorer Hernando de Soto, the vehicles were designed to compete
in the same market place as Studebaker and Willys-Knight.
