The former Wheatsheaf Inn stands in Towcester's High Street. Constructed with coarse squared ironstone, the building features a large archway - a legacy of Towcester's halcyon days as an important coaching town. Dating from the 18th century, the pub was kept by Hannah Eales in the 1840's and 1850's. Born around 1772, she was helped by her son Joseph. The pub was once part of the estate of the Earl of Pomfret but was later leased Pickering Phipps & Co.Ltd. In 1890 the Wheatsheaf Inn was kept by James Peasnall who was also documented as a grazier and fly proprietor. Living next to pub at this time was the Cheshire-born Wesleyan Minister John Newall.
