At the time of this photograph in August 2003 this pub was
trading as the Monk & Tipster. A few years later it was
certainly part of the Scottish and Newcastle empire. Though
modified in the 20th century, there is a dated stone inscribed
with the letters L WS M 1650. In the 1850's the pub - and the
cottages in Sun Yard - was owned by Charles Liggins. He kept the
Sun Inn with his Dunchurch-born wife Frances. Following his
retirement, Charles Liggins moved to a house in Railway Terrace,
Rugby. The adjacent Baptist Chapel was erected in 1877.
