A lovely inn sign for the Weavers' Arms at Quedgeley
in Gloucestershire. The pub
was originally called The Basket Maker when it was built and opened by
Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries in 1985. Following a refurbishment in 2001,
the pub's name was changed to the Weavers' Arms. Due to the expansion of
Gloucester and the main roads emerging from the city, Quedgeley is almost a
satellite settlement but it was once quite separate, though the traffic along
the ancient route from Gloucester to Bristol brought some trade. Looking in a
mid-19th century trade directory for the village, there is no mention of basket
making or but one has to assume that this activity took place nearby for the pub
to adopt such a name. Note: inn sign images are cropped for display - download often features full board with mount, edging and, in some case, the hanging bracket etc. Other Images that may be of interest.... |
