![]() A lovely Anchor inn sign produced by Ind Coope and found at the
Anchor Inn at Streethay in 1973. The sign
of The Anchor is thought to have emerged on the coast when either ex-sailors took over a pub or they wanted to attract sailors to use
the pub. However, as in this case, the emergence of the canal network in the
early days of the industrial revolution led to a growth of Anchor pubs close to
canals. Note: inn sign images are cropped for display - download often features full board with mount, edging and, in some case, the hanging bracket etc. |
