![]() ![]() This Ansell's inn sign was hanging outside the Acorn Inn at
Winson Green in 1989. The sign of the acorn has been popular
throughout the years and, in particular, during the 19th century. It is possible
that some 'new' publicans of the early days of the beerhouse chose this because
they hoped to grow solid from a diminutive beginning. As David Everett once
wrote "large streams from little fountains flow, tall oaks from little acorns
grow." Note: inn sign images are cropped for display - download often features full board with mount, edging and, in some case, the hanging bracket etc. |
