The Star at Pangbourne had a lovely inn sign when photographed here in January 2004. The Greene King-operated pub had an illustration with Daniel King's North Star steam locomotive blasting along a line operated by the Great Western Railway - Pangbourne being a stop on this historic route. The inn sign has the distances to both Bristol and London. As Superintendent of Locomotive Engines for the GWR, Daniel Gooch bought two locomotives, the North Star and Morning Star, which had been co-designed with Robert Stephenson. The North Star was delivered in 1837 and operated until 1871.
