A view of the so-called "mammoth presses" at the
Vauxhall Press Shop. The company was founded 1857 by Alexander
Wilson and was originally based in the Vauxhall area of London in
1857. The business was originally called Alex Wilson and Company but
changed to the Vauxhall Iron Works. It was not until 1903 that
Vauxhall built its first motor car, a five-horsepower model steered
using a tiller. In order to expand the business, the factory was
moved to Luton in 1905.
